INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS
CURRICULUM
WHAT FACULTY OFFERS TO Ph.D. STUDENTS:
Ph.D. students full-time form of study are awarded for the period of 4 years basic, extraordinary and premium scholarship. Every student automatically gets also contract of employment. Average salary of Ph.D. student is round 15 - 20.000 CZK/month (minimum 650 euro/month, i.e. 7.800 euro/year) (depending on the achieved study results). Faculty offers to Ph.D. students also cheap accomodation. More info about scholarships you can find here.
Course of study
The study of doctoral study program Fishery (4103V003), Fishery (P0831D03006A) or study program Protection of Aquatic Ecosystems (P0588D030004) is based on individual consultations, individual study of recommended specialised literature, completion of the prescribed courses, fellowships abroad and specialised seminars, professional practice and systematic work on Ph.D. thesis topic. Ph.D. STUDY in sections:
DISSERTATION
- doctoral student at the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters (hereafter student), systematically works on the topic of his/her dissertation (hereafter DW) under the supervision of the supervisor (s) and consultant for the entire study period (1. - 4. year)
- at the beginning of their studies students elaborate a literaure review to the subject of his/her dissertation in English (SS 1st year of study)
- every year until Ph.D. thesis defense student shall present his/her progress and results of dissertation in the seminar (1. - 4. year)
- the student has to publish at least a part of his/her dissertation as the first author in a scientfific journal, which achieved at least once during the last three yers before accepting the article for publication the impact factor of 0,4 or higher
- moreover, the student must have published another article under conditions identical with those above in each case as the first author.
- the student must participate in international conference
STUDY
- study in doctoral study programme is based on individual study plan. Departmental board usually orders a student to attend to 7 subjects on offer, based on the focus of student's dissertation a and the recommendation of the admissions committee. The tutor and the student can add up to 2 additional subjects.
- all the students take exam in English (FCE, TOFEL or IELTS - min 5,5)

INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE
- during the studies, the Ph.D. student shall spend at least 3 months in a foreign department as an educational stay
- the student must participate in international conference
PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE - st. program Fishery
- the student shall actively participate in operational works on faculty experimental facilities. In the first year, the student has to udergo short-term educational stays in the hatchery, model experimental facility, experimental pond station to the total extent of 20 working days. Each student has to undergo at least 3 short-term (for 5 - 10 work days) educational stays in various workplaces mentioned above

- each student of the first or second grade is obliged in each term to participate in at least 2 fishing out of a pond greater than 1 ha
PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE - st. program Protection of Aquatic Ecosystems
- professional practice is an optional activity (1 credit for every 5 days of practice, max. 20 days of practice)
- practice consists in completing internship at professional workplaces (operational, educational and research) that carry out activities that are in accordance with the objectives of the study and the graduate profile. After agreement with the guarantor of study program PAE - Assoc. Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Vladimír Žlábek, Ph.D.
TEACHING
- an individual study plan must also include at least 90 hours of pedagogic activities in the relevant field during the entire period of study
- each student of the third and fourth grade is obliged to manage projects at summer fisheries schools
- each student shall assist as a concultant of at least one bachelor, master or dissertation thesis during study
